Its probably a bad idea for the US military to allow the troops overseas to get the news from back home. I have this fear that someday the service men and women in places like Iraq and Afghanistan will finally snap after seeing the people theyve pledged to defend are less interested in what theyre doing than TV reality shows and celebrity gossip. If the military ever decides that the pack of assholes back in America isnt worth fighting and dying for, we could find all that hardware aiming backI haven't seen the recently-released film yet (I hear it's amazing), but I really loved the book and how well it holds the various attitudes of war, as well as its powerful imagery.
I enjoyed this book more than I expected. And, I wasn't really sure for the first half or so if I was enjoying it or not. But, as it built up to the end I was enthralled - definitely the sign of a good book.The delivery of the story was very unique. The entire story (except for a few flashbacks) takes place over the course of a Thanksgiving Day Dallas Cowboy's game during the Gulf Conflict post 9/11.
