I guess I can not be the Camus fan I had hoped to be. I enjoyed The Stranger and then The Plague, but really hated The Fall and this book of short stories were not to my liking at all, most of them I had trouble following along with the point of the story or the appeal of the story itself, particularly annoying was The Growing Stone.:-(

First 4 short stories are great, the last two, not so much. I usually don't like to go in there, but it's really uncomfortable how Camus writes his arabs and black brazilians. They either have nothing to say or talk and act like little children. The europeans just walk around the foreign earth, all troubled and blasé, the only ones with a rich inner life. Personaly I love Camus and this flavour of writing. . . The writing, which is for its own sake. . . Pure, artistic and honest. . . Each story is like a painting that etches itself permanently n vividly in one's memory. . . The setting is so important as are the characters with their conscientious n existential struggles, their paradoxes n dilemas, that are too real and near to one's ownself rendering these characters unforgettable. . .
