Its too horror for me: torture, mutilation, ripped intestines too much. Plus the nightmares, OMG, theyre even more horrible. Its measured well though, keeping the reader intrigued and in suspense.Raphael managed to get closer to me in this book, Elena not so much. You get more of the secondary characters, and thats great. I loved Dmitri.

Sure, she's not sure what kind of relationship they have exactly, but just being in a relationship with Raphael seems to bolster her. Reread on 2/15/2020I'm going to leave my old review below, because it still amazes me that a narrator can make or break an audio book. The first time I tried this series I listen to them on audio. I found Justine Eyre reading of the book a bit boring and I found myself not really getting into the series. So I gave up. Then my brother who is a huge fan of the series demanded I reread them, but this time I had to read them myself. Wow what a different it made. I loved this book this time around.
